Vampire Facials - not as scary as it sounds
You might be surprised to learn that Vampire Facials have been around for a few years. The recent global increase in demand for this unusual procedure, may be as a result of a much publicised review by TV personality Kim Kardashian.
In this age of vampire cults and anti-aging obsession, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the latest skin rejuvenation treatments would combine the two. If you also consider that cosmetic treatments have involved injecting solutions under our skin for years, it’s logical that injecting a fluid that actually comes from our own body makes sense too.
So how does it work?
Blood is taken from your arm and treated to remove platelets. Using acupuncture style needles, these platelets are injected into the face and neck area just under the skin. This process rejuvenates the skin by stimulating new collagen production.
And seemingly, it isn’t as unpleasant as the image portrays. Often a numbing or anaesthetic cream is applied first to reduce pain. When the procedure is complete, icepacks are used to assist in recovery. Bear in mind that side effects can include some bruising so probably not a good idea to plan a night out after!
